HOW TO SETUP SPAM FILTERING
Spam is so
frustrating and annoying! We have installed Spam
Assassin on our servers. This software allows
users to filter out all unwanted spam, by either
deleting it entirely or by renaming the subject
so that you can delete at your own discretion.
Here are the
steps to enable Spam Filtering on your mailbox.
Please note that Spam Filtering will ONLY work
with mailboxes, not redirections!
1) Login to the Hosting
Control Panel
2) Click 'Mail'
3) Click on the mailbox name you want to
configure.
You will notice
that 'Spam Filter' is greyed out and you cannot
select it yet.
4) Click on 'Mailbox'
5) Tick the box next to "Enable
spam filtering", then click OK.
Now 'Spam Filter'
is enabled.
6) Click on 'Spam Filter'
This
is the configuration screen.

When Spam
Assassin scans incoming emails to determine
whether it is spam, the email is given a
ranking. A higher ranking means the email is
most likely spam. The "Hits
Required" box is this level of
ranking.
You can
then choose what to do with the email once it
is determined to be spam. You can either delete it
entirely or rename the subject line so that you can delete at your own discretion.
We
recommend changing the "hits" to 4 or 3!
|
For example, if
you set the "Hits" to 6, any email
with a lower ranking will NOT be treated as
spam. Therefore, even an email with a rank
of 5.9 will get through to you.
Please do not set this ranking lower than
3. Normal non-spam emails may be deleted!
As a general guide:
3 - 5 Hits = Large majority of spam will be detected but
potentially
some legitimate emails too.
5 Hits = Most spam detected - default setting. Almost
all legitimate emails will get through to you.
7+ Hits = Less spam detected. You will receive most spam
emails.
7) UNTICK
"Use server wide settings" box.
8) Click "Set"
That's it! You have setup Spam
Filtering.
There are more advanced
options such as whitelists and blacklists. You do not have to configure these,
but if you want to be vigilant with your spam filtering:
The Whitelist is where you add
email addresses that you DO want to come through to you, no matter how many
"Hits" it receives.
The Blacklist is where you add email addresses
that you DO NOT want to come through to you, no matter how many "Hits"
it receives.
